RINCON — Effingham Health System’s 50th anniversary year continued its growth through partnerships with the Aug. 7 opening of Effingham Vascular Center.
Ambassadors from the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce helped cut the ribbon on the new facility at 613 Towne Park Drive West. It is the result of a new partnership between Effingham Health System (EHS) and Savannah Vascular Institute.
Effingham Vascular Center will be staffed by Savannah Vascular Institute physicians and nurse practitioners. It is the latest step in EHS’ transformational journey to provide access to specialty care close to home. Patients will no longer have to drive to Savannah for treatment of diseases of the vascular system.
Effingham Health System CEO Fran Baker-Witt said, “We are excited to bring this community a partner that is dedicated to both compassionate and state-of-theart treatment of disorders affecting arteries and veins.”
Vascular medicine encompasses many diseases that affect the circulatory system. Three of the most recognized ones are Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, Carotid Artery Disease Stroke and Peripheral Arterial Disease.
Vascular surgeons manage veins and arteries in every part of the body except the brain and heart. Effingham Vascular providers will stress disease prevention through patient education, lifestyle changes and medications to lower complications from vascular disease.
The Effingham Vascular Center will be staffed by board-certified physicians who are fellowship trained in the fields of vascular surgery or interventional radiology.
Baker-Witt said, “Having this level of quality specialty care available in partnership with Effingham Health System, is one more step toward our vision: to achieve customer and industry recognition while providing the highest potential health outcomes for the patients we serve.”
Dr. Christopher Walls is a board-certified vascular surgeon at the Effingham Vascular Center. He said the Institute’s physicians are pleased to partner with Effingham Health System.
“This is where our patients are,” he said. “We want to make vascular care convenient for them.”
The Effingham Vascular Center will provide a wide range of procedures utilizing the latest minimally invasive technique. These include:
• Laser ablation of varicose veins and sclerotherapy
• Angioplasty, atherectomy, and stenting, and surgical bypass for peripheral artery disease
• Endografts for abdominal and thoracic aneurysms
• Comprehensive management for all dialysis access issues
• Carotid Artery Angiography, stenting, and surgery
• Chemoembolization and uterine fibroid embolization
• Comprehensive management of non-healing wounds
• TIPPS, biliary & urologic interventional procedures
• Thrombolysis and medical management of Deep Vein Thrombosis
• Urgent clot removal for stroke patients
The Effingham Vascular Center is the most recent partnership to bring expanded care to the Effingham County region. Other partnerships resulted in the highly successful Cancer Care Center and Effingham Orthopaedics.
